External Committees

View the different external committees and boards that serve citizens and community development in the City of Lethbridge. An external committee or board is not established by Council, but Council may appoint Council members and citizens to serve on it.

The Chinook Arch Regional Library Board is responsible for governing the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, including:

  • Communications
  • Conducting financial reviews
  • Enforcing and maintaining the Governance Policy
  • Marketing
  • Planning

The board is governed according to the Libraries Act and an agreement between the City and the Chinook Arch Regional Library.

Meetings

The Chinook Arch Regional Library Board meets on the first Thursday of April, August and December each year at the Chinook Arch Regional Library System Office at 2902 7 Ave. N. Meetings start at 5:30 p.m. and typically last two to three hours.

Membership

The Chinook Arch Regional Library Board is made up of 41 members with one member appointed from each of the participating municipalities. The City appoints one member to the board who serves a three-year term with a six-year term maximum.

The Community Futures board is responsible for overseeing the Community Futures Lethbridge Region which is a non-profit organization that has been assisting small and regional businesses since 1986. Guided by a team of local business professionals, consultants and volunteers who provide loans, management tools and expert guidance to local small and rural businesses. 

In addition to this, Community Futures offers specialized business programs and educational courses aimed to improve business practices. Working alongside community leaders and stakeholders to create strategic plans and implement projects that support value-added activity and expansion in the region.

Meetings of the Community Futures Board are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 10:00AM - 12:00PM.

Membership

Community Futures Lethbridge Region’s Board of Directors is comprised of up to twelve (12) residents from our member communities. The CFLR strongly encourages each of the member communities to provide the Board with elected officials. The majority of the Board is comprised of individuals appointed by the Councils of the member communities, and also includes 2 Members at Large (preferably from the area’s local business communities) appointed by the existing CFLR Board Members.

The Economic Development Lethbridge Committee provides direction and leadership that encourages the private and public sectors in Lethbridge to undertake programs and projects that will promote economic growth. If the Committee is required to report to City Council, it will report to the Economic Standing Policy Committee.

The Economic Development Lethbridge Committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month from September to June in the Culver City Room in City Hall, located at 910 4 Ave S., from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Membership

The Economic Development Lethbridge Board of Directors is made up of 31 volunteer members drawn from a diverse cross-section of the community.

The Green Acres Foundation serves the needs of senior citizens in our community by providing quality, affordable housing and supportive services to help them maintain their independence.

Meetings

The Green Acres Foundation meets on the last Wednesday of the month in their administrative offices located at 122 5 Ave. S., at 10:00am for approximately three hours.

Membership

The Green Acres Foundation is made up of nine members, including three members appointed by Council. Members serve a one-year term.

The Highway 3 Twinning and Development Association works with Provincial and Federal governments for the purpose of twinning Highway 3 from the British Columbia border to Medicine Hat.

Meetings

The Highway 3 Twinning and Development Association meets on an as needed basis, a minimum of four times per year.

The Lethbridge Housing Authority (LHA) is a Housing Management Body established under the Alberta Housing Act to provide a sufficient amount of adequate, affordable, safe and secure housing for people who require assistance to obtain or maintain accommodation. The LHA serves low-income seniors, families, individuals and other management bodies and community groups.

Meetings

The Lethbridge Housing Authority (LHA) meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September to June in the Lethbridge Housing Office Board Room, located at 314 3 St. S., at 4:30 p.m. for two hours.

Membership

The Lethbridge Housing Authority (LHA) Board of Directors is made up of nine members, including eight citizen appointments and one Council member.

Mayors and Reeves from across Southern Alberta meet to discuss issues that affect their municipalities and collectively agree on solutions to issues that arise.

Meetings

Mayors and Reeves of Southern Alberta meet on the first Friday of each month (except for July and August) in the Culver City Room in City Hall, located at 910 4 Ave S., at 1 p.m. for two to three hours.

The Oldman Watershed Council aims to improve the Oldman River Watershed through partnerships, knowledge and the implementation and integration of sustainable water management and land use practices.

Meetings

The Oldman Watershed Council meets on a quarterly basis at 319 6 St. S.
