Lethbridge has an at-large system. This means that each member of City Council represents the city as a whole and not a particular neighbourhood.

Does Lethbridge have a ward system?
To elect a Mayor, City Councillors (up to eight), Public School Trustee (up to seven) or Separate School Trustee (up to five), municipal questions (if any) and provincial questions (if any).
Voting will take place starting October 8. The last day to vote will be October 20. Voting stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents may vote at any of the three voting stations.

Only nominated candidates that have filed their Notice of Intent with the Returning Officer may campaign. A candidate must have a dedicated bank account open before they file their papers.
When can election campaign signs be posted?
Campaign signs are permitting on private property once the candidate has filed their nomination papers. Permission must be obtained from the property owner.
As a candidate, what am I not allowed to put on my campaign materials?
City of Lethbridge regulations prohibit candidates from using City of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Elections, Public Schools and Separate Schools logos. The Local Authorities Election Act prohibits the development of materials that appear to be a form of ballot.
When is campaigning prohibited?
Campaigning is prohibited in and around a voting station while voting is occurring. This includes canvassing for votes, displaying signage and wearing campaign materials.
Will there be candidate forums?
The City of Lethbridge does not coordinate any candidate forums. However, we will provide information on our website listing of any candidate forums or debates that are taking place.

As a candidate, do I have to disclose my financial contributions and expenses?
Yes. All candidates for Mayor, City Councillor, Public School Trustee and Separate School Trustee must file two disclosure statements. Go to Campaign Contributions and Expenses for more information.
Anyone who is at least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of Lethbridge on Election Day. If you are not a Canadian citizen, you are not able to vote.
Students must have a permanent address in Lethbridge to vote.
If you attend school in Lethbridge but have family outside of Lethbridge who you usually live with when not attending school, then you are not eligible to vote.
What if I am home bound? Will I be able to vote?
The City of Lethbridge will be providing voting stations at a number of care facilities, designated seniors housing, or supportive living facilities. Voters who live in these locations will be visited by election workers. This service is only for residents of these facilities.
If, because of a physical disability, you are unable to attend a voting station, you may request to vote at your home on Election Day (October 20) between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Please make arrangements for this service by calling 311 no later than Friday, October 17.

When will I find out the results of the Election?
Unofficial results will be published as they become available after the close of voting stations. Because hand counting is required, this will take several days.
Are there any political parties for the municipal election?
No. Provincial legislation does not permit local political parties in Lethbridge's municipal election, and candidates cannot declare to be aligned with any provincial or federal political party.
