Nomination Process

Starting January 1, 2025, residents can submit Nomination Papers to become official candidates and ensure their name appears on the ballot in the 2025 Lethbridge Election.

Key dates for the 2025 Municipal Election

Nomination Period

January 1 - September 22 at noon

Election Period

October 8 - October 20

1) Confirm eligibility

To be eligible, prospective candidates must:

Be at least 18 years of age on Nomination Day (September 22, 2025)
Be a resident of Lethbridge for the six consecutive months before Nomination Day (September 22, 2025)
Be a Canadian citizen
Not be disqualified under the Local Authorities Election Act (Sections 21-24) or Education Act (Sections 4(4) and 74)

2) Complete all Nomination Forms

Mayor
Nomination Paper	Each office has a distinct form that must be used and each requires a different number of signatures from eligible voters: Mayor - 100 signatures needed Candidates must submit their Nomination Papers in person at City Hall. Appointments must be booked by emailing election@lethbridge.ca.
Candidate Financial Information	Candidates must inform the City of Lethbridge of any changes to the information provided in the Candidate Financial Information form within 48 hours.
Candidate Contact Information Form	Candidates must provide the City with general contact information.
Notice of Intent	Candidates must provide a Notice of Intent before any campaign fundraising efforts and expenses can occur.

City Councillor

Nomination Paper	Each office has a distinct form that must be used and each requires a different number of signatures from eligible voters: Public School Trustee - five signatures needed Candidates must submit their Nomination Papers in person at City Hall. Appointments must be booked by emailing election@lethbridge.ca.
Candidate Financial Information	Candidates must inform the City of Lethbridge of any changes to the information provided in the Candidate Financial Information form within 48 hours.
Candidate Contact Information Form	Candidates must provide the City with general contact information.

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division Trustee
Nomination Paper: • Ward 1 • Ward 2 • Ward 3 • Ward 4 • Ward 5	Each office has a distinct form that must be used and each requires a different number of signatures from eligible voters: Separate School Trustee - five signatures needed Candidates must submit their Nomination Papers in person at City Hall. Appointments must be booked by emailing election@lethbridge.ca.
Candidate Financial Information	Candidates must inform the City of Lethbridge of any changes to the information provided in the Candidate Financial Information form within 48 hours.
Candidate Contact Information Form	Candidates must provide the City with general contact information.

3) Submit the Nomination Papers

Prospective candidates can submit their Nomination Papers at City Hall. All forms must be fully completed before submission. Forms that are incomplete or contain errors will not be accepted.
