An ode to the annual Elm Tree Pruning Ban

Listen up, folks, and gather near.
Dutch Elm Disease season is officially here.

From April to September, elms can’t be pruned.
Because Elm Bark Beetles love the smell of their wounds.

These critters bring fungus, that is bad for the trees.
It can kill a large elm in one season with ease.

Watch out for the signs, they’re easy to spot:
Leaves turning brown and dropping a lot.

Or maybe wilting and curling… or no leaves at all!
(That’s not supposed to happen until fall.)

Call 311 or the hotline, don’t wait.
1-877-837-ELMS, before it’s too late!

No cutting or storing, don’t move that elm wood.
Let’s stop the spread by doing what’s good!
