Businesses reminded to submit mandatory waste reports by January 31

The City of Lethbridge is reminding businesses, organizations and institutions to submit their annual mandatory waste diversion reports by Friday, January 31.

More than 450 businesses have already filed their reports with the free and easy-to-use online system, which takes less than five minutes to complete.

Whether large, small, family-owned, part of a national corporation, for-profit or charitable, these establishments all fall under the Mandatory Recycling and Organics provisions within the City of Lethbridge’s Waste Bylaw 6146. Home-based businesses are excluded from the mandatory requirements of the bylaw as they follow residential waste, recycling and organics requirements.

Nearly two-thirds of all landfilled waste in Lethbridge comes from the business sector. Mandatory reporting for businesses exists as part of the City’s Waste Management Master Plan, which aims to increase the landfill diversion rate and reduce business waste.

To access the free tools and resources designed to assist with these requirements, including the online waste report submission portal, go to lethbridge.ca/businesswaste

Community members can also learn more about waste diversion and mandatory reporting at the Community Conversation on Wednesday, January 29 from 3-7 p.m. at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
