Celebrate Environment Week with daily activities and events

The City of Lethbridge is encouraging residents to connect, care and celebrate our beautiful local environment with a week of free, family-friendly activities and events!

Monday
Challenge yourself to bike, bus, walk or find an alternative mode of transportation today! The City has great resources for planning alternative transportation around the city:

o   Download the Transit App to plan your route

o Download the Micromobility App to setup an account and e-scoot or e-bike

o Plan an adventure on your bike with our cycling route maps

Tuesday
Help reduce the textile waste going to our landfill by donating your unwanted, clean and usable clothes. As we look at water conservation, it is important to consider the water used in our consumer goods. Did you know 10,000 litres of water goes into making one pair of jeans?

Visit Wasteless.ca to learn more about textile waste in Lethbridge.

Wednesday
Check out the City’s Water Conservation Plan and find some tips on how you can help save water and dollars on your next water bill! Add some mulch to your garden beds to help keep that moisture in place, investigate a low-flow toilet or pack that dishwasher before running it.

Thursday
Help reduce your Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and reduce food waste in the landfill by using your green cart. Anaerobic decomposition of organic material in the landfill creates methane, a GHG 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Emissions from the landfill make up 6 per cent of our city’s GHGs. So be sure to toss last week’s mysterious leftovers in your green cart instead of your black cart.

Friday
Lethbridge has a beautiful urban forest that is coming into full bloom! The Lethbridge Tree Passport is a fun way to connect with nature, get outside and view the remarkable trees in our community.

Saturday
Get out in nature and play! Our friends at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre are back with Nature Play Fest at Henderson Lake Park from noon to 4 p.m. Nature Play Fest provides families with the opportunity to try diverse outdoor activities from kayaking to loose parts play.

Stay tuned to our social media feeds this week as our friends at Environment Lethbridge takeover with some green and clean tips to celebrate Environment Week.
