City offers ‘wheely’ great tips for cycling safely in bike lanes

Cyclists using the new downtown bike lanes are the focus of the City’s latest awareness and education video series.

The two-part video series highlights safety messages and tips for both cyclists and motorists. The videos are filmed downtown to help show residents how to safely navigate the newly constructed bike lane network.

Part two of the video series is now available with a focus on helping cyclists understand how to safely navigate the downtown bike lanes. Signaling, visibility and awareness all help in maintaining safe and courteous traffic flow for both motorists and cyclists.

Safety for cyclists and motorists is in full focus with the City of Lethbridge’s new bike lane education videos.

Collaboration and expertise from the Lethbridge Police Service in addition to several City departments helped to form the safety messaging in the series. Sergent Ryan Darroch of the Downtown Police Unit guides viewers through the safety messaging and tips. The Downtown Policing Unit often patrols the area on bicycles and understands the common missteps of motorists and cyclists alike.

Part one of the City’s Bike Lane Safety video was published earlier this month, with tips and safety messaging for motorists.
