City prepares for a Run to Remember

The Parks & Cemeteries team is delighted to announce the inaugural “Run to Remember.” Taking place on September 29, 2024, the event is a community-oriented fun run or walk. It commemorates and honours the memories of loved ones and celebrates life.

The run showcases the beautiful Mountain View Cemetery as a recreational destination. Participants can choose to walk or run two distances: 2.5k and 5k. This makes the event suitable for all fitness levels and promotes inclusivity and accessibility.

“We want to create an event that honours the past while bringing the community together in a unique way,” says Cemetery Coordinator Ryan Chudyk. “A cemetery is not often thought of as a recreation destination, and we want to change that. Mountain View Cemetery boasts a beautiful view with wide pathways, perfect for a walk or run.”

The 2.5k route winds through scenic pathways lined with serene landscaping and historic headstones. The 5k route will be a double loop. Chip-timing will be used, with medals awarded for first and second place in each age category.
