Compost and Recycled Aggregate Sales

​The City of Lethbridge recycles concrete, asphalt, porcelain and brick & block into aggregate products. Recycled aggregate products are available for sale to private contractors and the public. Recycled aggregate is a great choice for any project, and the Waste and Recycling Centre (WRC) offers a range of materials to meet your construction and landscaping needs.

Available Products

 

Description: 20mm RCP is a suitable alternative to traditional road crush and is made up of highly angular fractured concrete and manufactured sand for exceptional compaction.  

Used for: 20mm RCP is a versatile material that can be used for roadway and pathway base material under paving stones or retaining walls, granular backfill or as surface gravel on roads and driveways.

Colour:  Gray with minor colour variations. 

Cost: $5 minimum, $15/tonne

 

 

Description: 20mm RAP is a suitable alternative to traditional road crush and is made up of ground asphalt pavement and manufactured sand for exceptional compaction.  

Used for: 20mm RAP is a versatile material that can be used for roadway and pathway base material under paving stones or retaining walls, granular backfill or as surface gravel on roads and driveways.  When used as surface course on driveways, provides a darker appearance and lower dust levels than RCP.

Colour: Dark gray to black with minor colour variations. 

Cost: $5 minimum, $15/tonne

 

 

Description: 20mm RBB is a suitable alternative to traditional decorative pathway stone and is made up of crushed red bricks and concrete blocks and manufactured sand for exceptional compaction. 

Used for: 20mm RBB is a versatile material that can be used for decorative surface gravel on pathways and driveways and in landscaping.  When used as surface course on pathways provides a reddish appearance similar to red shale, but with more structure.

Colour:  Colour varies from gray to brown and red. 

Cost: $5 minimum, $15/tonne

 

 

Description:  20mm RPS is a suitable alternative to traditional road crush and is made up of highly fractured porcelain and countertop stone. 

Used for: 20mm RPS is a versatile material that can be used for decorative surface gravel on pathways and driveways.  

Colour: Colour may vary but is generally white with gray-black fragments and occasional pops of colour. RPS may even include part of an old kitchen sink.

Cost: $5 minimum, $50/tonne

 

 

Description: Finished compost is a high quality soil amendment made up of composted organic materials collected at the WRC and Lethbridge Yard Waste Collections Sites.  This material has a high organic content, promotes good soil structure, water retention and adds important nutrients to the soil.

Used for: Finished compost is a versatile material that can be used in gardens and planters, as a top dressing to lawns and in reclamation work.  Note: finished compost must be mixed with topsoil at a minimum of 1 part compost to 1 part topsoil when being used as a planting medium for new plants. 

Colour: Rich medium to dark brown.

Cost: $5 minimum, $25/tonne

Shredded White Wood

Description: Shredded white wood is a recycled wood material. The shredded wood is approximately 2 inches in size. 

Used for: Typically used as mulch. It helps to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. 

Colour: Light

Cost: $5 minimum, $25/tonne

Shredded Green Wood

Description: This is a fresher wood material that has not been aged or dried as long as white wood. Product of tree trimming and can vary in size.

Used for: Similar to shredded white wood, it is also used as mulch. Additionally, it can be used in composting.

Colour: Light

Cost: $5 minimum, $25/tonne

Note: Stock levels may vary. 

How to purchase

  • When arriving at the WRC, please tell the Scalehouse attendant you would like to purchase compost and/or aggregate products. The attendant will direct you to the compost and/or aggregate products.
  • Your inbound and outbound load will be weighed to determine the cost.
  • Purchasers are expected to self-load. Please come prepared to load your own material, including bringing a shovel. For any large loads which may require assistance, the WRC can provide loading services for an extra fee. Please call 311 to arrange a loading appointment prior to visiting the site.

Please note: If you are dropping off any waste materials prior to purchasing compost or aggregates, you will be required to weigh in/out separately for waste loads and aggregate purchases.
