Council Highlights January 21, 2025
- Lethbridge City Council approved second and third readings of several Land Use Amendment Bylaws and Area Redevelopment Plan Amendments for four different proposed housing projects on the city’s southside. These items were in follow-up to the lengthy Public Hearings on December 10. The approved Bylaws are Bylaw 6459 (404, 408 12 St S); Bylaw 6460 (524, 528, 532 - 13 St S); Bylaw 6461 (524, 528, 532 - 13 St S); Bylaw 6462 (537, 539, 543 - 13 St S); Bylaw 6464 (605 – 5 St S and 510 – 6 Ave S) and Bylaw 6465 (605 – 5 St S and 510 – 6 Ave S). - Council approved the Animal Care and Control Bylaw. Bylaw 6475 replaces the Dog Control Bylaw, the Wild or Domestic Animals Bylaw and the Pigeon Bylaw. The new bylaw comes into effect May 1, 2025. Read more here
- Council second and third readings of the Election Bylaw, including regulated updates in relation to the Provincial Government’s Bill 20. Read more here
- Council voted unanimously in favour on an Official Business Motion from Councillor Belinda Crowson on Adopting the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) Transit Code
- Council voted unanimously in favour on an Official Business Motion from Councillor Belinda Crowson on Optimal Balance Range for Municipal Revenue Stabilization Reserve
- Council voted 6-3 to defeat a proposed Official Business Motion from Acting Mayor Jeff Carlson on Disbanding the Standing Policy Committee Model
- Council received the latest Encampment Strategy update as information
- Council carried second and third readings for Bylaw 6471 - Downtown Business Improvement Area Tax Bylaw
- A Committee Submission on a Recommendation of Governance SPC - Bylaw 6454 Amendment to Council Code of Conduct Bylaw 6125 was postponed to the February 11 Council meeting

- After being pulled from Consent Agenda to be voted on separately, first reading was carried for Bylaw 6469 – Land Use Bylaw Amendment re: 1401 28 St. N. A Public Hearing on this item will take place on February 25 at 3 p.m.
