Crews extinguish structure fire in north Lethbridge

An investigation is underway into the cause of a structure fire in north Lethbridge.

Seventeen firefighters from three stations responded to a backyard fire in the 1700 block of 2 Avenue North around 8:40 a.m. Friday. Crews arrived to find flames and smoke coming from a garage. The fire was under control within minutes and contained to the garage. Homes on either side of the fire did experience smoke damage.

No injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at approximately $75,000.

The fire also burned a power pole, causing power lines to detach from the pole, resulting in a power outage in the surrounding area. Crews have since restored power to the 224 affected customers.
