Fall Back means change your clocks, check your smoke detectors

Remember, remember: Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, the fifth of November.

As clocks are falling back an hour this weekend, the City of Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services encourages residents to also utilize this time as their bi-annual reminder to check your home’s smoke detectors as well as to change your furnace filters.

The expiry date should be reviewed annually and putting in fresh batteries is an important step to ensure smoke detectors are working properly. If your smoke detector is more than 10 years old, it will need to be replaced.

Having a working smoke alarm is the best way to protect your family in the case of a fire. Spend a few minutes to make sure everyone in your home recognizes the sound of the smoke alarm and knows what to do in case of a fire.
