Fire crews contain grassfire west of Scenic Drive

UPDATE #2 (Monday, March 3):

On Friday, February 28, at approximately 2 p.m., Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a grassfire near Scenic Drive and 11 Avenue South. 

Five stations responded with a total of 26 firefighters; crews worked quickly to contain and fully extinguish the grassfire. 

One firefighter sustained an injury at the scene. No other injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is undetermined. 

 

UPDATE #1 (3:33 p.m.):

The grass fire is now under control. No injuries were reported. 

 

ORIGINAL: 

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services crews are actively fighting a grass fire west of Scenic Drive, between Scenic Drive Dog Run and Scenic Heights Apartments. 

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area and give crews space to work safely. Scenic Drive remains open. 

Smoke may be visible in the surrounding neighbourhoods. 

We appreciate the community's cooperation as crews work to contain the fire.
