Nominate your mighty neighbour - Super Summer Edition!

The City of Lethbridge launches the Mighty Neighbour: Super Summer Edition initiative today and nominations are open once again.

This heartwarming campaign is aimed at recognizing and celebrating those unsung heroes in our neighbourhoods who go above and beyond to make our neighbourhoods legendary. The campaign invites residents to nominate neighbours who contribute to creating a neighbourhood that’s comfortable, safe, and accessible for all.

“The winter trial of this program was a success with close to 80 submissions in a couple of short months” says Heather Gowland, Transportation Community Coordinator with the City of Lethbridge. “There’s support for this kind of program so the City’s decided to keep it going with the launch of a summer edition.”

This summer, the initiative is set to reignite the community spirit with spotlight focused on those who are cleaning up litter, sparking connections with neighbours in a positive way, and continuing to clean up after their pets all year round. Check out the inspiring characters whose small acts have a big impact: Lena the Litter Legend, Sonny the Spark, and dressed in her cooler summer ‘fit, Poop-Scoopin' Penny.

“Community spirit tends to build in the warmer months and this is an opportunity for people to call out their enthusiasm for the small acts of kindness that make a big difference,”says Ashley Walker, Parks Community Coordinator. “The City is introducing two new characters to champion how to be a mighty neighbour and has re-suited one of our Winter Warriors as an all-season hero.”

The online nomination form is open now until the end of September. To nominate a Mighty Neighbour, simply visit lethbridge.ca/MightyNeighbour and share your neighbour's tales of summer heroism. From litter legends to poop-scooping superstars, let's give applause to these remarkable individuals.

Each month a nomination will be drawn and the nominator will have the opportunity to share their story with local news and on the City’s social media channels. Plus, the neighbourly nominee from this entry will receive a small gift of recognition.

“We look forward to hearing about the everyday heroes who make their neighbourhoods mighty good places to live” says Walker.
