Oscar, Recyclesaurus Rex and The Bin-Credible Hulk are hitting the streets!

Oscar, Recyclesaurus Rex and The Bin-Credible Hulk are the new superheroes of the streets as City’s garbage, recycling and organic truck fleet have been named.

Students from the Lethbridge School Division, Holy Spirit School Division and Home School students once again had the opportunity to submit entries to help name the trucks.

“We are so excited that our student Lincoln participated in the naming contest and came up with such a creative name, The Bin-Credible Hulk,” says Meghan Calder, Principal of Our Lady of Assumption School.  “With schools participating in garbage, recycling and organics collection as part of the greater community, this has been a great way to partner with the City. Having the truck come to the school for students to see has engaged students in waste management.”

The City received more than 500 entries competing to be selected for either a garbage, recycling or organics collection truck. The students named four garbage trucks, four recycling trucks and six organics trucks. The complete list of names is below:

“Anytime we can engage the youngest residents of our community in learning about waste disposal is always an excellent opportunity for partnership,” says James Nicholls, Collections Manager, Waste & Environment department. “We were overwhelmed with the response to this naming contest and had some hard decisions to make to narrow down our fleet names to the final 14 names.”

Residents can use the online tool to check if their green, black or blue cart has been collected. The garbage, recycling and organics collection trucks are the third fleet of City vehicles using the tracking technology, as this software was previously used for snowplows and more recently, street sweepers.
