Quick warmup closes designated outdoor skating areas

Mother Nature’s recent change in temperature has closed all outdoor skating areas in Lethbridge, effective immediately.

Weeks of cold weather allowed for safe skating at Nicholas Sheran Lake and the Northwest and East Legacy Ponds. A temperature swing of almost 40 degrees over the past few days has changed conditions.

Ice thickness reports on Friday showed the areas comfortably met safety standards. But by Saturday morning, water was visible. While the ice may still be thick enough, the City is erring on the side of caution. City crews will reevaluate conditions on Monday.

Up-to-date ice thickness conditions, and information on City of Lethbridge Ice Arenas & Centres, can be found here.
