Repairs to cause temporary road closure at Festival Square

A temporary road closure of 6 Street South between 3 Avenue and the laneway near Festival Square is set to begin on Monday, March 31.

This contractor warranty repair work involves replacing damaged concrete panels in the roadway. The damaged panels will have to be removed, reformed and then poured.

As the concrete will take about a week to cure to the required strength before the road can be reopened, this work is anticipated to be complete by Monday, April 14, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to expect temporary detours and traffic control as follows:

  • The closure will impact traffic on 6 Street South between 3 Avenue and 4 Avenue like when there is an event taking place at Festival Square
  • Northbound traffic on 6 Street will be detoured down the laneways
  • Sidewalks will remain open during construction and parking will be unaffected
  • Barricades will remain in place for a week after the work has been completed to allow concrete time to cure to the required strength before the road can be re-opened

The Downtown BRZ is aware of this closure and notices were directly delivered to business owners along 6 Street between 3 Avenue and 4 Avenue earlier this week, alerting them to the work.

Stay safe, follow signs and reduce speed

Please maintain safe distance from all excavated areas and machinery while work is in progress. As crews and contractors work to upgrade and maintain the streets and roads around the City, motorists are asked to slow down and pay attention to signage to keep crews and themselves safe.
