River valley fire ban in effect

Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban is in place on all open fires in Lethbridge’s river valley.

Conditions are critically dry due to humidity below 30 per cent and high temperatures expected throughout the week. These weather conditions significantly elevate the fire risk in the river valley.

Residents are reminded the river valley fire ban does not apply to backyard fires. Residents are still permitted to have a fire in a backyard fire pit using clean, dry firewood. However, everyone is advised to exercise extra caution, particularly when disposing of smoking materials, as they can easily ignite dry vegetation and cause uncontrolled fires.

These restrictions are essential for community safety and to prevent potential wildfires. For more information on fire bans, visit the City’s website here
