Road construction impacts for Whoop-Up Drive, plus Crowsnest Trail, from July 22-24

With the continuation of the Whoop-Up Drive bridge rehabilitation project, crews will be working at night starting Monday, July 22, through Wednesday, July 24.

This work, which will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, continues with the north lane. On Wednesday, July 24, starting at 10 p.m., westbound Whoop-Up Drive will be reduced to one lane for short periods of time.

Those travelling during the night are advised to adhere with the posted speed limit, drive with caution and observe all construction signs. All work on westbound lanes is expected to be complete by approximately Labour Day weekend in September, weather permitting.

Additionally, starting at 9 a.m. Monday until about 5 p.m. Tuesday, 28 Street South will be closed at Highway 3 (Crowsnest Trail) for water-related work.

How motorists can help:

  • Add extra time to your commute to help reduce frustration due to delays
  • Be courteous to other drivers. Reduce wait times by taking turns entering the lane reduction area. Learn how to zipper merge
  • Reduce speed for your safety, and the safety of community members who are working onsite
  • Follow all posted signage and traffic controls

Stay up-to-date on road work, detours, and closures:

  • Residents are encouraged to check the WebMap and allow for additional time to get to their destination to help reduce road construction frustration. The map provides residents with accurate and up-to-date information on road closures, facility closures and City projects and initiatives
  • Lethbridge motorists can check for existing traffic delays by checking the new Whoop-Up Drive traffic cameras before making their bridge-crossing commute
