Sustainability 2022 Annual Report

Monitoring progress and reporting on environmental actions is a key component to the City’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This report covers environmentally sustainable City projects and programs, through the lens of the City’s six sustainability focus areas: sustainability, energy, air, land, water and waste.

The Sustainability 2022 Annual Report covers work completed in 2021-2022. The projects and programs described in this report offer a snapshot of the work being conducted in 2022 by City departments to address the realities of climate change and environmental stewardship.

Overall, the corporation saw an improvement in the Corporate Greenhouse Gas emissions of close to 12%, which was partially due to work from home policies, facilities working with modified hours and a transition from Coal Power Plants to generate electricity from more sustainable generation methods. Other completed achievements include the creation of the Energy Conservation Master Plan, which provides the overall framework, direction, and goals to improve energy efficiency within the corporation. Implementation actions were identified in the Plan and departments are now being directed to plan and deliver on the proposed actions.
