Two residential fires under investigation

Investigations are underway into two separate residential fires.

The first occurred just after 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 23 in the 2000 block of 7 Avenue North. Neighbours called 911 after spotting the fire.  

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the home. A search of the property discovered a family pet deceased. 

Damage is estimated at $300,000. An investigation continues into both the cause and origin of the fire.

The second fire saw 19 firefighters from three stations respond to a home on Sunridge Boulevard West just after 8 p.m. Sunday, August 25. 

The fire was contained to the basement. Nobody was injured and the family pets were able to escape unharmed.

Damage is estimated at $200,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
