With Day of Mourning, City honours victims of workplace tragedies

Marked annually in Canada on April 28, National Day of Mourning serves to remember those hurt or lost at work and as a reminder to ensure workers get home safe.

This day of remembrance is dedicated to those who have lost their lives, become injured or fallen ill due to work-related incidents. It provides the opportunity to honour coworkers, friends and family who have been affected by workplace tragedies and renew our commitment to fostering safer workplaces in our city.

In observance of National Day of Mourning, the City of Lethbridge will host its annual memorial ceremony at the CUPE 70 Workers Memorial Site in Mountain View Cemetery today, Monday, April 28, at 12 p.m. Attendance is open to the public.

National Day of Mourning was officially recognized by the Canadian government in 1991, eight years after the day of remembrance was launched by the Canadian Labour Congress. Since then, it has spread to more than 100 countries worldwide.
