There are two ways to apply for micro-generation in Lethbridge.
Option 1: Homeowners, solar retailers, and non-electrical contractors
Homeowners, solar retailers, and non-electrical contractors can apply for an Interconnection Agreement via the Solar Micro-Generation Application. This is an agreement between the property owner and City of Lethbridge Electric Design regarding the maximum allowable energy generation of a future residential or commercial micro-generation system.
Please include the following with your application:
- Evidence of Canadian approvals of the solar modules (CSA, ULC, Intertek, etc.)
- Confirmation of racking and solar panel compatibility
- Single-line diagram
- Component specification sheets from the manufacturer
This agreement only states the approved micro-generation capacity of the system. It does not act as a permit and does not authorize the installation, activation, or alteration of a solar array. A Solar Electrical Permit is required to perform any type of work on a new or existing solar array, which must be obtained by a certified electrical contractor with a valid City of Lethbridge business licence.
Electric Design will provide an Interconnection Agreement to the applicant to be signed by the property owner. Once the signed Interconnection Agreement is returned to Electric Design, an electrical contractor may then be hired to obtain an Electrical Permit and perform the work.
Option 2: Electrical contractors or solar retailers who employ an electrical contractor
Certified electrical contractors with a valid City of Lethbridge business licence can apply on behalf of a homeowner or solar retailer via the Electrical Permit & Solar Micro-Generation Application. The Residential and Commercial workflows include both the Interconnection Agreement and Electrical Permit.
Please include the following with your application:
- Evidence of Canadian approvals of the solar modules (CSA, ULC, Intertek, etc.)
- Confirmation of racking and solar panel compatibility
- Single-line diagram
- Component specification sheets from the manufacturer
Electric Design will provide an Interconnection Agreement to the applicant to be signed by the property owner. Once the signed Interconnection Agreement is returned to Electric Design, City of Lethbridge Building Inspections will commence review of the provided design documents, issue the Electrical Permit, and authorize installation of the solar array.
