Municipal Development Plan
The City of Lethbridge’s Municipal Development Plan sets a vision and policy guidance for the City to:
- Improve our residents' quality of life
- Meet the community's changing needs
- Foster a prosperous local economy
- Grow in a responsible and sustainable manner for years to come

Desired plan outcomes
The Municipal Development Plan sets six desired outcomes for Lethbridge, which include creating a city that is:
- Culturally vibrant
- Economically prosperous
- Environmentally responsible
- Healthy and diverse
- Supportive of the region
- Well-designed
Drafting process and public engagement
The Municipal Development Plan was drafted over the course of two years, starting in 2019, and builds on multiple other studies, strategies and plans from the last decade. Rather than writing an entirely new one, we decided to review and update the previous plan while focusing on certain areas for improvement such as:
- Future growth and development
- Housing
- Indigenous relationships
- Local economy
We engaged the public on these topics in Council engagement sessions and gathered feedback through various online engagement efforts. View our engagement report to find a summary of the feedback we received for each topic, and view our Council meeting recordings and minutes for our Council engagement sessions:
