Let me welcome you to the first Mayor’s Column of 2026.

To those new to reading this: I write this monthly feature on behalf of Lethbridge City Council to keep people informed on matters of importance in the community, as well as to highlight achievements by members of our community. I try to use this space to focus on the positive pieces and the good news stories we have in the wonderful city we all call home, as well as to provide further context on some of the more complicated matters.

The City of Lethbridge is exploring ways to make Assessment & Taxation notices more transparent, clearer to read and easier to use. We’re asking residents for feedback on how well the current notices explain their Assessment and Taxes and what changes would make them easier to understand.

Property owners can now make prepayments towards their 2026 property taxes in January or February. This will result in a discount when 2026 tax bills are issued in May.

Lethbridge City Council’s committee meeting and governance structure could be changing when 2026 begins.

Today, the City’s Economic & Finance Standing Policy Committee (SPC) heard the results from three recent surveys aimed at gathering feedback from residents and businesses in Lethbridge.
