A community celebration of life and health at Mountain View Cemetery
The Parks & Cemeteries team is preparing for the inaugural Run to Remember. Taking place Sunday September 29, the event features a 2.5K and 5K walk or run through Mountain View Cemetery. It is designed to honour the memories of loved ones, to celebrate life and to promote community health.
“Including two distances makes the event suitable for all fitness levels,” says Ashley Walker, Parks Community Coordinator. “We wanted to make it accessible and inclusive for the entire community.”
The 2.5K route winds through beautiful pathways surrounded by serene landscaping and historic headstones. The 5K consists of a double loop. Both distances start and finish at the cemetery entrance.
“This event offers a unique opportunity,” says Walker. “It allows us to showcase the beautiful Mountain View Cemetery as a recreational destination.”
The 5K participants begin at 10 a.m. followed by the 2.5K entrants at 10:05 a.m. Before the run, a moment of silence will honour loved ones lost. A memory board will be available for participants to write down the names of those they are running for.
The run will be chip-timed and medals will be awarded for first place male and female for each age category.
Strollers are welcomed along the route, but dogs are not allowed in the cemetery. Participants are asked to be respectful and stay on the paved path. If you plan to visit the cemetery on race day, please be considerate of the participants. You may also choose to plan your visit for the afternoon.
Registration closes this Saturday, September 28. Race packages will be available at the starting line between 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on race morning.
We invite you to lace up your running shoes and join us for this special and meaningful experience!
