City opens new public Electric Vehicle chargers at several strategic locations

As Electric Vehicles (EV) continue to increase in traffic volume, the need for charging stations has similarly risen.

Recognizing this, the City of Lethbridge has recently installed 22 new EV charging stations at four strategic sites across the city. They are open to the public and available for use as of today.

The parking lot at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, at the corner of Mayor Magrath Drive and 9 Avenue South, now features two 100 kW capacity FLO DC fast chargers. These two chargers represent the fastest charging capability for EV drivers south of Calgary.

There are also now 20 level 2 FLO chargers offering 6.2 kW delivery at:

  • Lethbridge Regional Park 'n' Ride Transit Terminal level 3 (10 units, including two accessible stalls)
  • ENMAX Centre parking lot (six units)
  • City Hall parking area (four units)

There are also four level 2 chargers located at the Cavendish Farms Centre on the west side, which were installed at the facility during original construction.

“It was an important step for the City of Lethbridge to get this infrastructure operational as the summer travel season is underway,” says Stewart Purkis, Project Manager for Waste & Environment, who served as Project Lead for the EV chargers. “This brings us more up to speed in what we can offer our residents and visitors in the way of public EV charging options.”

“We are embracing the power of change and charging forward towards greener options for drivers,” says Mandi Parker, Waste & Environment General Manager. “We have been working on this project for a while and it is exciting to be at the finish line.”

“On behalf of Lethbridge City Council, I am pleased that these chargers are now open to the public for use,” says Mayor Blaine Hyggen. “As we collectively work towards sustainable future energy use, this is a great initiative for Lethbridge and region. This project shows a commitment to supporting the transition to low-emission vehicles while also enhancing tourism and economic development opportunities.”

The FLO EV chargers will be on the FLO network, which is accessed via an easy-to-use iOS and Android application and allows driver to find chargers, initiate a charging session and pay for your charging. To see how the search tool works please see: https://www.flo.com/en-ca/flo-network/.

“The FLO CoRe+TM and SmartDCTM chargers installed by the City of Lethbridge are highly reliable, durable and will provide local EV drivers with the best charging experience,” says Michael Pelsoci, FLO National Sales Director, Canada. “Each charger is on both FLO’s network and app which means the chargers are monitored around the clock and are available whenever drivers need to charge up their vehicle and get back on the road.”

FLO is a Canadian-based Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network operator and a smart charging solutions provider. Every month, FLO enables more than 1 million charging events at over 90,000 fast and level 2 EV charging stations deployed at public, private and residential locations across North America. As the Lethbridge EV charging station project is part of a grant initiative, full funding details will be provided during an announcement in August.
