Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 3 to 9, and the City of Lethbridge is encouraging residents to take simple steps to be ready for emergencies.
This year’s campaign combines the national message, “Be Prepared. Know your Risks,” with Alberta’s theme, “In It Together.” The focus is clear: prepared households and connected neighbours create a stronger, more resilient community.
Blaine Hyggen, Mayor of the City of Lethbridge, has provided notice that a Special Closed Meeting of City Council will be held at 1:30 P.M. on May 5, 2026, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, City of Lethbridge, with the following item on the Agenda:
EHS Ground Ambulance Service Agreement Update (ATIA Sections 19, 26, 28, 29, and 32)
The city has introduced a new webpage that posts daily sports field status updates, replacing the old phone line. All fields open or close together based on weather and safety conditions.
Due to the major financial impact on Lethbridge taxpayers, City administration is recommending City Council not accept the Province’s new contract conditions for emergency medical services (EMS), while preserving the right to participate in further negotiations and/or request for proposal processes.
Service level changes, external decisions from other levels of government, inflationary increases, and funding allocation to community groups will all be top of mind for City Council as they head toward approving a 2027 Operating Budget.
