​Lethbridge City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to designate a new Municipal Historic Resource. The two-story Oliver Block, located at 316 5 Street South, will become the latest addition to the City of Lethbridge's Heritage Register. 

​When Kathryn Linder headed off to work on July 14 it was a normal Thursday. She had no idea that a traumatic hostage taking at her office would leave her gravely injured with her survival in the hands of police officers, paramedics and a hospital trauma team.

I want to begin this month's column on a somber note with my statement on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. I, along with many others, have never known another head of state. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, has been a steady and constant presence in our lives and last week, after a reign of more than 70 years, we mourn her passing.

​The arrival of the Labour Day weekend means the unofficial end of summer. It can, however, also be a time to look back at a summertime that featured a full return of happening events in Downtown Lethbridge.

Thank you, Lethbridge! Following the parade on Tuesday, Mayor Blaine Hyggen celebrated the return of Whoop-Up Days with the first Mayor's Community Barbecue. Thanks to a group of sponsors, 1,300 people outside Lethbridge City Hall on 4 Avenue were fed a free lunch.

August is one of my favourite months of the year – and I could not be more excited to have a full Whoop-Up Days back in Lethbridge next week.

Today, the City of Lethbridge is thrilled to officially open the second phase of Legacy Park, the regional north destination for residents and visitors. Phase 2 amenities include a spray park, discovery playground, pavilion and picnic shelter.
